SMC provides Microsoft
Small Business Server support for small businesses which are
planning or considering their first client-server installation.
SMC will help a small business convert from either a paper based
system or a peer to peer computer system to a full client-server
operating system.
Why consider the Microsoft Small
Business Sever?
Security: Each client
computer and or user is administrated from the server. Access to
files, folders and the internet is controlled by the system
administrator.
Central File Storage: Files
which typically are stored in My Documents on each workstation
are moved to the server. Files are usually grouped in to areas
such as Common, User, and Workgroups (i.e. accounting,
engineering, sales, etc.) with access controlled by user
permission set at the server.
Central Backup: Once the
files are moved to the server, daily backup of the server
insures that ALL files are backed up.
Application Deployment:
Initially this includes applications such Antivirus, Spyware
checking and office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
etc. Later, applications such as accounting, fax and SQL may be
hosted on the small business server.
Mail Server: Microsoft’s
Small Business Server includes MS Exchange which allows email to
be received to a central location, either by SMTP (direct to the
server by DNS) or by POP3 from existing web hosting providers.
This central location provides easy screening and backup.
Firewall: The premium
version of Microsoft’s Small Business Server includes the ISA
2004 firewall which strictly controls communication between the
server and the internet. This is done by either user, computer
or protocol or any combination thereof. |
